Undergraduate Studies
The core of the curriculum focuses on the history and archaeology of a large part of the Mediterranean area from the prehistoric times until the 20th century addressing various aspects of the civilizations emerged in this area, mainly those developed in the area of the modern Greek state: the prehistoric Aegean civilizations, the ancient Greek, the Roman, the Byzantine, the Venetian, the Ottoman, as well as the Modern Greek. Additionally, the curriculum covers a larger range of areas than other History and Archaeology Departments, including digital humanities.
Graduate Studies
The Department offers masters studies leading to MA in “Contemporary Approaches to the History and the Archaeology of Cities” (as of 2021-2022) as well as doctoral studies leading to PhD in History and Archaeology.
Career perspectives
Graduates can be involved in professional activities falling into the general areas of history and archaeology but also extending to additional fields including museum studies, cultural heritage management, public archaeology. An appealing and innovative additional career perspective offered is digital humanities, a section of the humanities studies that has recently drawn large attention worldwide.
