The presence of Art from 14th century to the modern age in the current school manuals of Compulsory Education. A comparative study between Primary and Secondary Education

The purpose of this research is to study art both as an object and as a teaching tool, along with studying the perceptions of teachers themselves about its role and value as a lesson and as an educational tool. In particular, starting from the assumption that art practices the senses, the means of expression, the imagination and, in general, the criticism and aesthetic ability of the individual, the first trigger for this research was the finding that the school, focusing – to a large extent – in the utilitarian value of knowledge, his engagement is exhausted in the “artistic” lessons. Secondly, the fact that although Art and Education have been a subject of scientific research so far, the corresponding research on the position of Art in Education is characterized by the absence of relevant scientific studies. As a result, the ultimate aim of this work is not only to fill a research gap in the field of Art or Education, but also to help change the way of thinking about how to deal with Art in the educational field towards a creative renewal of the learning process.
