YAR104 Classical Archaeology I

Professor: Dimitris DAMASKOS | Course outline [pdf file]

The lectures examine ancient Greek art, from its beginning, in the early 1st Millennium BCE, until the high classical times (400 BCE). In this context the main historical and social conditions are analyzed that led to the evolution of art from the Early Geometric times (1000-900 BCE) onwards, as well as the main art genres (sculpture, vase-painting, architecture) of each period with their characteristic examples.
