The course aims at presenting to the students the basic features and the main periods in the History of the Ottoman Empire.

The Ottoman Empire ruled the Middle East and the Balkans for over six centuries. The aim of the course is to study the rise and expansion of the Ottoman Empire as well as the administrative, economic and social organization of the Ottoman state. In addition, students will be familiarized with Ottoman archive sources.
